Halloween

I made it! A buttload of pictures were completed for #inktober! Including a very special one…

So, it’s never come up but I have a couple of wily and fun ginger sisters in my life. I’ve drawn them before as Jean Grey and Dark Phoenix; it seemed appropriate, given the personalities involved. But one of them REALLY loves Halloween. So… I made her the Goblin Queen!

I started out with a couple of thumbnails to get the design I wanted.

Then I did a rough sketch. This is when I decided to add a pet goblin. A queen needs her subjects!

After doing a clean line version of my image and choosing a pallet, I begin coloring, doing the leather and skintones first.

Next came the cape. If you know the character, you know her original design by Marc Silvestri was very sketch and tattered looking. I didn’t want to go THAT far, but still wanted to stay in the spirit of the original.

Next I added some background accents. I was going to make it feel a little more Dante at first, with suffering souls and all that. But I decided against it.

Finally I added an appropriate sidekick and made sure all of the focal light fell on the main character.

My friend was really happy with her gift. But I’m no dummy. I have to draw the other one soon. They ARE sisters after all.

Tangent of Expectations

Another weekend gone. This one especially sucks because I get to hear what appears to be a firefight outside. Great for celebration, not so much for PTSD based nightmares.

Anyway, after a fender bender I was involved in last week, I decided to draw #jezebelle. It’s been awhile since I drew any vehicle.

Since I didn’t want her to be all oblong, I actually used tools instead of freehand work. It was… interesting . Some of it came back right away. Other parts took a little erasing, lol. All part of the process, right?

My life kind of falls away when I’m  really into a drawing. It’s a little hard to explain. I guess you could say that the only thing that exists for me is the next pen or brush stroke. Sometimes I wish I could stay there forever.

Once it was completed, I stared for a moment, both happy and sad that it was done. My mind is already shaping other projects. The more I create the faster they seem to come to me. I’ll never be able to finish them all!

Isn’t that great?

Localized Love

image

A LOT of the time,  I draw without being conscious of it. It’s something I’ve always done. You’d get a better answer if you asked me when I started breathing.

This year I’ve started some major personal projects. I’m hoping to get one published, so everything about it matters. Still, I can’t make the part that just draws shut down.

But I know how. All I have to do…is be happy.

When I’m happy,  I can’t draw. It means that I tap into negative energy to do so. I’m trying to learn to create without doing so, but it’s hard when the emotions have to be at the surface.

Of course, I can’t wait. So I feed the beast whenever it howls, and hope to work on my projects in between. It could be worse, right?
