Double for Something!

Just when you thought I’d posted for the week, BAM!! This time I decided to show you guys a picture I made for fun. I do that a lot, don’t I?…

Anyway, this one is to snub my nose at someone who told me that they hated all the ” muscled up dudes in bras” that I draw. Hey what can I say? I’m a contrarian.

Because of that, all I heard was “don’t do that!”. And because of THAT… you get this.

So to recap; I love all women. Amazing, interesting and my drug of choice 😉. But I draw strong women because they’re strong women.

    Okay?

Interest

This picture is for a customer based off of a REALLY crappy photo. I mean flip phone quality! I definitely need to update my requirements for images.

All in all, I’m okay with how it came out. The person it was presented to was ecstatic I’m told.

At the end of the day, that matters quite a bit.

Also, this was the first image I’ve created on my new artdesk! It feels official now.

In the interest of full disclosure, I also had to put a white light LED bulb in the lamp I bought. I didn’t realize how off I was seeing colors until I corrected them. See the yellow? Ew…

Second layer is prismacolor pencils in case you’re wondering. I get amazing depth in my images this way. It makes a HUGE difference in the overall look.

Also, no more expensive artist tape, especially since I get better edges with painters tape, hahaha.

Some of the time was spent just getting her face right. Again, using a small image and trying to get it photo accurate was an enormous challenge. Apparently, it looks like her; the relief I felt made all the little struggles worth it.

So after a few more touch ups, I’ll spray it with fixer and it’ll be on its way.

Show [No] Go

Travel has been a big part of the last few weeks of my life. It’s good to be home, in a lot of ways.

My life studies are still going on. I’ve gotten a little better, though I won’t pretend to have mastered anything yet. Work in progress, right?

It’s not skin tones or their shading that bothers me. It’s hair! I’m finding that while there is one overall dynamic to doing it, variation on the theme is extensive!

So these images have allowed me to get somewhat better at creating realism.

This sketchbook is clearly filling up a lot faster than others. Maybe I’m getting better at making casual art? Who knows…

I have a lot of work to get caught up on. Maybe I will have time to draw again in a few days. Things are THAT hectic. It’s hard to find time for my own art while working on stuff for others.

It could be worse I guess. These were problems I wanted last year, lol. Unforseen consequences.

So. This picture took me almost an hour. Not bad.

    See? Practice pays. 😉

Self Improvement

Kenichiwa! Greetings from Green Bay Wisconsin! I’m here on business, but that doesn’t mean I can’t show you guys a personal project. Let’s begin!

To be honest, this project is part of an overall series of sketches. It started innocently enough…

The more images I’ve created, the more the character has begun taking on its own life and memories. In a strange way, it feels like I’m bringing an actual person into being.

Even though its great to enjoy the process of creating a character,  sometimes you have to be prepared to let them go. When I was really young, I us to try to make creations that weren’t meaningfulstay.

They were mine after all; a bit of my ego and effort went into each one. So I held on and in doing so held back my growth.

Even when I learned better technique, I was still obsessed with applying them to failed creations! And because they wouldn’t work, I believed that they weren’t for me.

Well, now I know better. You can’t just let your imagination stop! Grow a character, give them something to say, but when it’s over don’t be afraid to hug them and let them walk away. Sometimes they’ll return more mature and better actualised. Often they’re gone forever. But the growth they’ll give you will never be forgotten.😊

New Week, Old Me

Good morning you guys! I actually had a fun and restful weekend. Well, mostly fun. I went out of town to attend the Ford Nationals in Carlisle PA. #jezebelle and I participated in a few events and I even got the chance to autocross in a professional racing car! So much fun😊.

I also have an upcoming trip to Green Bay WI, followed by a run out to LA. So I’m going to be EXTREMELY busy!

So I’ve been doing a bit more sketching than usual. Mostly for fun, but also to keep coming with content.

After all, keeping art fun while knocking out some actual regular commissions and video work can be hard. Downtime keeps your mind fresh.

Have a great week! 😊😊😊😉
