come back

I’m VERY busy lately and it’s my own fault. I’ve been working on a pretty big project that started in the wrong way….

…so I am a member of the Mustang Club of America. I’ve owned a few and I draw them constantly. Some of you already know that.

Well, last week I decided to post a couple on the group’s Facebook page.

Big mistake.

After a few hundred people contacted me to draw their personal cars, I decided to draw different ones from different eras and make them available for sale. To get everyone excited about the idea, I drew the new Shelby in illustrator and promised to include it in a coloring book that I was also making.

So far I’ve had a little over 8 thousand likes and a ton of responses.

I guess that I’m going to be busy.

[un]achiever

I’ve been really busy this week, but I told someone I was doing another car and here it is!

Next month begins with a big announcement, something I’m sure you guys will like. What is it? I can’t spill the beans yet! But for being so cool, here’s a hint:

   Have a great weekend!!

No Year Love

Yesterday,a after a weekend of cosplay and muscle cars, I decided to take a little time to relax. There aren’t many places in my small suburb where a person can do so; Starbuck’s being one of those. So I found a corner table slipped on my headphones, Irished up my green tea and got to work.

Since I am a fan of auto racing, I begin to draw. I heart radio was playing American top 40, but I had a problem.
     People kept interrupting me.

I get it. I’m doing something you find interesting and you have questions. But headphones are the universal sign for “do not disturb”.

One guy in particular was a complete ass about it. Finally came and stuck his hand right in my face while I was in the middle of doing line work. Which caused me to mess up. Which caused me to freak out on him.

That’s me. I am not a small man. So me standing up and telling him “if you stick your hand in my face again, I’m going to break it in several places before I return it!!” had the effect I wanted. But I hated it because my mood was completely ruined. Worse, I was angry and it’d take awhile to relax enough to be in my groove again.

I went outside. Just sat at a table and stared into traffic until I calmed down. I started drawing. My only happy place.

Trespassers beware.

Tangent of Expectations

Another weekend gone. This one especially sucks because I get to hear what appears to be a firefight outside. Great for celebration, not so much for PTSD based nightmares.

Anyway, after a fender bender I was involved in last week, I decided to draw #jezebelle. It’s been awhile since I drew any vehicle.

Since I didn’t want her to be all oblong, I actually used tools instead of freehand work. It was… interesting . Some of it came back right away. Other parts took a little erasing, lol. All part of the process, right?

My life kind of falls away when I’m  really into a drawing. It’s a little hard to explain. I guess you could say that the only thing that exists for me is the next pen or brush stroke. Sometimes I wish I could stay there forever.

Once it was completed, I stared for a moment, both happy and sad that it was done. My mind is already shaping other projects. The more I create the faster they seem to come to me. I’ll never be able to finish them all!

Isn’t that great?

Racer S, part 2

Line work SUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKSSSSSS! Still,  the results are worth it. I’m kinda tired right now, but I decided to post this so you can see I’m not slacking off.

Once it’s done, simply make a selection of the line work and on a separate layer add your chosen color. You’ll probably have to invert it, so just use Ctrl+shift+I (invert).

Well that’s it.I’m off to bed. I earned it

Racer S, part 1

image

Annnd we’re off! Really looking forward to this all week as I began work on a new piece. I decided to give it a little of the speed racer feel and driving skills not withstanding,  make the talent into a born driver. So I worked on a pose to give her that dynamic quality of being girly, yet ready for action.

image

It still has to look like our lovely model, even in this new position so I create a matrix of her face and body to get the proportions correct. This will help later in case I want to make slight adjustments to her expression. Some of you already know the drill;  head is 5 eyes wide, eyes are in center of total headspace, edges of mouth intersect center of eyes and ears are eyebrows to nose. That’s the mathematical representation of human symmetry and beauty!

image

No driver is ever the same without their awesome ride! Unfortunately, I forgot to save this image until I had already started line work! I HATE doing that part; I have nerve damage to my hands and it involves a lot of smooth flowing lines. Still, it has to be done and all the erasing is worth it in the end. As you can see,  I’m grouping each aspect of the image individually.  That way any changes I need to make to individual sections can be accomplished without changing the whole. Smart, huh?

image

This is the overall effect. Some aspects will change as I tweak the image, but for the most part, I’ve got a good base. Some design elements will clearly need to be addressed;  I reversed the image and it felt a little clunky with the flag. However, I’m happy with the design and when complete, some cute little muse is going to have an awesome poster or t-shirt! For now though, there’s a lot of line work to do,  so enjoy your weekend!
