Beginner’s Luck

I missed Otakon.

More specifically, I worked through the anime convention this weekend and couldn’t attend.

So the anguish in this picture is very heartfelt.

Could I have made it Sunday? Sure, if you don’t mind getting a lesser version of the event. But that’s not my style. Real life and bad scheduling on my part ruined a great weekend.

So I took the time to work on my comic book style. I picked it up during #inktober a few years back, but haven’t really worked on it much recently.

My dream to do a comic is long dead; I want to make a self contained story because those are what I enjoy the most. Episodic works can be wonderful, if you have the time and interest.

But I am not sure that I can maintain interest in any story that long, honestly. I think I have a few big graphic novels in me and they could MAYBE break up well….

But I doubt it.

I know that it sounds as though I’m being negative; still, six great stories or a bunch of mediocre crap? That’s no contest.

I’ll take the Icarus option.

All the Stars

Hope you guys had a great weekend! They’re always so short, huh? Anyway here’s an hour of my Saturday…

I’ve been asked before about why I don’t do more complicated pieces. Mostly it’s because I tend to draw for my personal enjoyment. Recently though, I’ve had a few things pop into my head; I just don’t know what format that I would want to use.

Oh well…I suppose that I could go back to digital. It’s just that I spend all day working on projects that way. And I have about 48 motorcycles that I may have to draw!

Wish me luck! 🙀

Do Over

.   Let’s try this again, shall we? I’ve been very VERY busy. I have to have no less than five original pieces done by Friday at the latest. That’s a lot of late nights! Am I up to it? We’ll see…

Aside from the Native American image and this one, which I JUST completed, I also have three more characters and a montage group shot. I’m trying not to freak out. One gets presented at NOVAcon next Friday. Yay!!

The best I can do is keep my word though. I hate hearing stories about artist who can’t make  a deadline; its okay to do work out of your comfort zone, just to wrap your head around certain concepts. But there’s no excuse for late work. Sacrifice and do your best!

     Now, back to work…

Keep it Apart

So with #inktober fast approaching, my apprehension about my upcoming project is high. While I believe in my abilities, it’s a pretty daunting task!

Luckily for me, I’m used to producing results in a timely manner. This past year has left me with huge improvements in my skillset; the script writing was a new skill as well as inking.

Lots of artist will be participating this year, so I’m honestly excited about the prospect. Hopefully I impress a lot of people, but the experience will tell me a lot.

In the meantime, I’m wrapping up all the pending images I had to complete, like this one. Some people aren’t expecting theirs yet. Oh well… I’m not going to rush, but come Friday, I expect to have completed five.

I’ll be posting here of course. You guys will get to see plenty of work.

Help! Squirrels!

Just a quick sketch of Dean Winchester from the show “Supernatural”.That is, if I gave him less forehead, lol! I’m actually getting ready to create a piece with the Winchester and Ventures. It’s going to be a two part image, juxtaposing supernatural against superscience. In the meantime I’m doing thumbnails with stickiesâ˜ș

Hope you guys enjoy it!  I’ve got to get back to work. Later.

Metal on Metal

image

So whenever I have to deal with the public (i.e. humans) I become a nervous wreck. It’s not that I lack confidence; they are mostly slow and unsure themselves. It makes for difficult interactions when you realize that the person is afraid of you.

Ok, maybe a shave and haircut and smile would help...

That makes it extra special when someone says yes! So I met a wonderful young lady who bravely agreed to let me photograph her for a drawing.

The entire thing was done during the train ride and presented to her. She was ecstatic!  Plus I received a lot of comments about it. A good day all around.
Now I need to do a little portfolio padding. So I’m going to be doing more complete images, including backgrounds. Here we go!

Catastrophic Success

First off, if you can, please check out the newest edition of ImagineFX! There’s a lot of cool art in it, plus a tutorial from Stanley Lau(Artgerm).

Second, I’m starting to get really good at creating digital fx and graphics. How good? I am being asked to do a LOT of it! Since I’m a contractor and it’s not part of my job description, I shouldn’t have opened that Pandoras box, but it’s too late for take backs. Plus, I’m being asked to travel more. As a result, my art has slowed to a crawl.

Damn my talented brain!

My clients, who are mostly bodybuilders,  are also getting kinda cagey.  They want the artwork, but more of them don’t want to be seen in unfinished states, not to mention two of them gave me photos that had been published by a guy on a paysite.I don’t want to get into any copyright infringement issues, so I rescheduled something more private. The upshot of which is that I’ve drawn about 23 images and still need to do several cosplay pieces!

   Didn’t I ask for this?
