Girls Own My World

image

What an opening declaration, huh? Well it’s true. Maybe it’s my southern upbringing but I tend to be more tolerant and patient with them. Guys catch hell with me but the ladies? Not so much.

This is NOT an unlimited ticket however.

I’m amazed at how often I receive derogatory comments about the women I choose to create or draw on my daily commute. “Why don’t you draw REAL women?” They’ll demand of me, as if my ability only receives validation through their option.

The truth is I pretty much create what I want. Like most men I have a type; confident, smart, funny and loving. But I also feel I’m those things with a nice helping of stubborn on the top.

I tried to portray that in this picture of Wonder Woman I made. She’s all those attributes in one made up person to me.

I feel that’s what a cosplayer who is in her character is trying to display about herself. Just like Harley Quinn exists in the land of broken dolls, Diana is a more mature, fully realized woman, more confident in her sexuality and identity.

So yeah, when I draw women I tend not to just draw sexpots. I try to give them the depth they deserve, sometimes succeeding, sometimes not.  But at the end of the day MY prize is when a woman tells me she likes the way I render her gender. What can I say?  They own my world 😉

Post Stupidity

image

Woke up this morning and started another picture. I guess you could say that I was struck by inspiration. It definitely had nothing to do with the coughing fit that drug me out of a deep sleep to spit up a lung…

     Nope. Nothing at all.

I played pool with a guy this weekend while his wife watched. After a couple of games and much drinking and mirth, she remarked that guys seem to fall into friendship so easily. We both looked at her and he said “friends? We don’t even know each other’s name! We’re just having a good time”.

I think that’s what I’m doing with my life right now. Interacting with people, but not engaging anyone.

    It’s a living.

Keeping it Fake

How much Portishead can you listen to until you need to hear Culture Club?  No Wham though, that stuff was too angsty. Oops, did I just date myself?

Seriously, though, I’ve been put in charge of making video graphics at work! Hope I do well…

A Boon to Mankind

and now for the same thing done differently…

Any time you can get a moment to yourself, you should try to indulge yourself. At least that’s the way I feel about it. Next week I’m going to be out of town for a week with a lot of downtime involved. Well, you KNOW I’m taking my laptop and some digital art will ensue, hahaha. So from Monday on expect multiple posts from me!

All the News

BBWeather

While at home Friday, I was watching the news here in Baltimore and noticed something amazing; our weather lady was hot! Yes yes, they put cute heads on television all the time, but this was different. This girl had a porn worthy body and they almost NEVER let women like that on air. (except Galavision and Univision, bless you both)

When I worked out of the DC bureau for ABCNews, we noticed this. Some of the PA’s definitely had custom car bodies, but the producers preferred the more model types.  The fact was if you were simply stunning, you probably didn’t get to go on air. Maybe they wanted the women to not be too pretty or sexy, maybe the old duffers upstairs had a type and only picked it. But it was definitely discriminatory towards certain types of beauty.

So here I was staring at someone who met that mold, on air! I guess times are changing. It might be a good sign. After all, for many ethnic women you could only be two types, big mama or beanpole. It’s cool to see an average woman with an adult build make it. A little less hypocrisy is always a good thing.

Good Deeds Will Be Punished

Hope you guys had a happy holiday! Mine was average, but a day off can be it’s own reward, so I won’t complain. In fact, it actually lead to me doing a fun little piece of art this weekend!

Remember how I told you guys that I’d joined a little sketchbook group before? No? Well whose fault is that!? Damn kids…anyway, it got me to thinking about all the art connections I could make online.

For artists, cosplayers are a godsend. They are always ready to pose for pictures, are friendly about explaining the source material and best of all, LOVE the idea of someone drawing them as their roles. That last one is a huge help to me, so I decided to join a community and see if anyone was willing to do so. I got a lot of takers!

Clearly the paying work comes first, no question. But how can I resist when someone this cute wants me to draw her?
